Arjan van der Velde
As you might have guessed my name is Arjan van der Velde. I grew up in Friesland, one of the northern provinces of The Netherlands.
After finishing the Dutch equivalent of high school I studied data communications / electronic engineering, and attended bits and pieces of several other studies like "music technology" and software engineering.
In July 2000 I started working for a relatively small company aiming at doing first and second line support. For this company I have worked on several projects in the Netherlands and grew from doing helpdesk work to being an Oracle DBA / systems administrator for a large multi-national company. I have been responsible for the technical implementation and management of a Peoplesoft CRM application (Oracle, HP-UX, Weblogic) implemented to serve about 1200 people throughout the whole of EMEA. During the implementation of this application I have worked on designing and building reporting solutions, previously implemented on the Vantive/Sybase predecessor of this application.
In 2004 my job expanded to being a DBA managing between ten and twenty Oracle databases, some having standby counterparts, on a HP-UX platform. As of the beginning of 2005 I started working for a CRM team, building a data mart built on E.piphany technology, Oracle, Informatica, HP-UX and MC ServiceGuard.
At this point my expertise's are:
In my work I value things like honesty, openness, flexibility, independence, freedom and perseverance. Another thing I value is working with people from all over the world. In my current job I have the privilege of working with people from many different countries within and outside of Europe. The team I currently work with consists of people of six different nationalities.
With Mohja I hope to achieve a high level of independence as well as working with people coming from anywhere in the world, who like to travel and are open to (and respect) cultures other than their own. One of the goals of Mohja is to provide an environment for freelancers in which this is possible.
